is drying out but not really warming up. temperatures still in the 40s in new york city and boston. the 80s still dominate texas for the time being. look at the cold air with this next system that. continues to push eastward into your weekend. we've got showers, perhaps some thunderstorms here in the midwest and plenty of snow and cold air all the way down towards phoenix. a high of 63 as we head towards the weekend. northeast slowly warming up, melting that snow pretty rapidly. sunday temperatures warming up across the east. meanwhile showers and thunderstorms across the middle of the country and the 80s here in texas behind the system. temperatures denver only 30 for a high temperature. 25 in billings. now we're pushing the low 60s from d.c., new york, even towards boston as we head towards the end of the weekend. into next week here comes a front into the midwest and the ohio valley giving you some scattered showers and thunderstorms. look at the temperature contrast. chicago 40, kansas city 40. but still 60 in louisville ahead of that front. here comes yet more rain and mountai

see 30s and 40s minneapolis today 53, boston and new york, warm for thanksgiving here throughout much of the south. and then by friday you're going to see that cold front push farther to the south. chance for some showers ahead of it and behind it could see a little bit of lake effects snow action happening here. then friday after a break in the northwest comes that next system bringing another chance for some showers and even some mountain snow. much much colder air. look at this. instead of some 60s, looking at upper 30s in chicago, upper 20s in minneapolis on friday. so black friday is going to be a cold friday for so many spots. and it's going to cool down even more once that front gets through. it's going to cool down for other locations, including new york and boston, lower 40s. look at the south now. lower 50s in atlanta, pushing 70 just a little bit before that, a couple days before that. now you're looking at much much cooler temperatures. it's going to feel a lot more like we're knocking on winter's door. sunday there will be some more cool air in place but dry. if you're do

northern tier here and the intermountain west, high unless the 40s. look at new york and boston. also temperatures in the 40s. that's going to be it for the daytime highs. we see here, cooler air, another cold front. 48 will be the high on thursday. 54 in atlanta. so from the north to the south, much cooler temperatures happening for many locations. new orleans still in the mid-60s. orlando 80 degrees. you can find some warmth around the country but it is more likely than not to be in florida this time of the year and at times warmer weather in the southwest. phoenix 82 by friday. and then a lot of people will head out of town, maybe you have the full week off forring thissinging this next week. so any travel problems, looks like mainly on the west coast here from sacramento and san francisco and parts of the southeast will have a few showers, as well. on sunday, similar story here. a low off shore. we will watch to see what that the turns in to, but a chance of showers in the mid-atlantic. weekdays on the weather channel you can wake up with al. ♪ you can help othersink along the w

had turkey chili for lunch what went on in that room? >> i was up here in boston, spoke to some romney advisers who described it as a good meeting, important meeting for both sides to do. this is an awkward looking photo. it is still very tough. the feelings if you're on the romney side of the campaign are still pretty raw. one of the things i was told romney made clear is that he doesn't want to play any part in fiscal cliff negotiations. there was some talk immediately afterwards some of his discussions or ideas on deductions, eliminating some tax deductions could be helpful, but romney made it clear he doesn't want to play a role in those talks. >> david, who would you be with this weekend on "meet the press"? >> talking to timothy geithner, talking about where the negotiations are, where the pain point is for democrats in terms of where they're willing to make cuts, that's an important question for republicans as discussions go forward. >> one of the men at the center of all of this. david gregory, thanks so much, david. >> thanks, willie. >>> let's check the day's other top

, philadelphia, boston. the number of cancelled flights, about $2900. today we got about 600. so where between 570 and 600 flights cancelled. a.m. tram update for you, it will provide modified northeast regional service, and i want to give yo a update on the subway system as well. there is some subway activity north of 34th street, but below 34th street, almost nothing. th that has been a real problem. if you're driving to manhattan today, you cannot be in a car with fewer than three people. i received e-mails, tweets from people that are trying to drive into manhattan. it is a mess today. mass transit has been compromised, massive gridlock, and a shortage of gas. all of that is causing big problems across the metro area. cars are lined up for gas and at times they have been blocking the highways, i saw a line two miles long to get into a gas station off of the freeway. want to show you gridlock. it has been wall to wall people. so many people know about new york and tunnels and bridges, so even if you're outside of new york, let me give you a sense of what's going on. the george washi

polling site behind us in the community of belmont just outside of boston. when governor romney walked inside, he was asked by one of the reporters who followed him who do you vote for? he said i think you know who. this is the end of a six-year journey for governor romney, a presidential bid that dates back that long. today he's actually going back on the campaign trail. he's going to head to ohio and pennsylvania to try to rally support there, motivate supporters and also thank some of his volunteers. the president, of course, voted earlier. he voted last week. he is spending this day in chicago in what has become an annual tradition, at least on election day for the president is that he's going to have a game of basketball with some of his close friends, by natalie, as we have witnessed, this is an exceedingly close race right now and both sides are particularly confident that despite polls that may show the president with the lead they are going to come out victorious tomorrow. that's the latest from here. now back to you. >> peter alexander in belmont, massachusetts. and a reminde

gusts in chatham, boston almost 50-mile-an-hour wind gusts, 38-mile-an-hour wind gusts in newark. and the snowfall amounts, four inches in stony brook, flushing, seven inches. new york stained newark both setting records, north haven, connecticut, 12 inches of snow. and berkeley heights, new jersey, getting seven and a half inches of snow now. look at the live radar, you can see is making its way up the coast, still snow being dealt with throughout parts of new england. we're looking at wet weather up the coast of new england as well and we have got a lot of wind to deal with, talking about the wind. we are talking about wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour out on the cape. we expect to see wind advisories along the coastline of new england and nantucket, looking at high wind warnings and with wind gusts from washington, d.c. up to boston, anywhere from 15 to 30 miles per hour, probably be some airport delays as well. the good news is, it's just about over. that's the latest. we have got your local forecast coming up in just a little bit. now, let's go back inside to matt. >> all r

. washington, of course, baltimore, philadelphia, boston. the number of canceled flights yesterday, about 2,900. most of those new york flights. today, we got about 600. somewhere between 570 and 600 flights canceled today, that brings to about 21,000 now. the total number of flights canceled since just before sandy and through this storm. amtrak update for you now. amtrak says it will provide modified northeast regional service between boston and new haven today and between newark and points south starting today. i want to give you an update on the subway system, as well, here. there is some subway activity north of 34th street, but below 34th street, almost nothing. and that has been a real problem for folks in new york city. all of this having a big impact on travel. if you're driving into manhattan today, the mayor has ordered you cannot be in a car with fewer than three people. i've already received e-mails and tweets and texts from friends who are trying to drive into manhattan. they say it is a mess. yet again today over the george washington bridge, here's why mass transit, of course, h
